Designers develop the appearance of new objects. They are involved in everything we encounter on a daily basis: transportation, homes, clothing, smartphones, furniture, dishes, billboards, navigation, favorite apps and websites.
But designers are developers rather than artists. They use their imagination and visual design skills to create a functional shell of an object. When creating a project, a designer can use both special programs for 3D modeling and an ordinary pencil.
Each direction of design has its own subtleties. One person is quite difficult to master several areas at once. Usually a competent professional specializes in a particular direction, but has general knowledge in this area. Here is the minimum that a designer should understand and be able to:
- Work in an editor. Depending on their field, designers use different programs. Most people have heard of Photoshop, but Cinema 4D is more familiar to professionals (it’s a platform for creating 3D illustrations).
- The basics of advertising and marketing. This will help a designer create products that are in demand in the marketplace. This knowledge will be a huge plus in the promotion of the specialist, because he will be able to position himself correctly to raise the price for his work.
- In order for the project to look holistically and harmoniously, the designer needs to understand the theory of color and the rules of composition. Proper combination of colors helps to highlight the main thing and draw the user’s attention to the desired function. Composition should follow the rules of visual hierarchy and focus the eye on the main elements.
- Communication skills. The design profession involves constant interaction with people, whether customers or colleagues. The ability to speak intelligently plays an important role.
- The ability to draw. This, of course, is not necessary, but welcome. Today almost everything can be created in an editor. Drawing skills are useful when you need to quickly show the client a sketch.
